Zat op het balkon, las wat Othello (omdat ik daar laatst naartoe ben geweest) maar bladerde al snel naar wat milders - zij het niet minder bloedig. Met wat kleine aanpassingen is de beroemde opening van Romeo en Julia zo weer actueel:

Two governments, both alike in infamy,
In fair Persia, where we lay our scene.
From ancient grudge, break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes soldiers hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of war-cross'd rulers, take all life;
Whose misadventur'd piteous overthrows
Do with their bombs bury sister, brother, husband, wife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark'd war,
And the continuance of their incessant rage,
Which the United Nations end nought could remove,
Is now the dreadful traffic of our world stage.
The which if you with covered ears attend,
What here once was, their toil shall strive to end.
